ART FOR TRANSFORMATION

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture), which operate the Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT], have collaborated with “Ars Electronica,” a cultural organization operating at a base in Linz, Austria, to organize “ART FOR TRANSFORMATION” at the Shibuya Sakura Stage from Friday, November 8 to Sunday, November 10, 2024.

OVERVIEW

Art arising from human creativity has the potential to change people, society, and cities for the better. “ART FOR TRANSFORMATION” is a three-day event where we will discuss the possibilities together with everyone.
Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT], based in Shibuya, and Ars Electronica, a cultural organization in Austria, have collaborated to open an approach to the possibilities that spread from creativity through art and digital technology at Shibuya’s new gateway.

Exhibition

CCBT Activities Introduction Exhibition

The expressions and thoughts leading to creativity x technology will be a guidepost for the cities, social systems, and communities created by citizens themselves, and also for sustainability. Through panels and video, we will introduce the activities that CCBT has been working on for approximately two years since its opening, in order to bring new ideas to our lives and culture.

Memory Volume Reality Capture Workshop

Reality capture is a process of scanning three-dimensional objects around us and reconstructing those places and objects in a digital space. This workshop is an opportunity for participants to walk the streets of Shibuya together, discover new technologies while having fun, and share creative ideas, thoughts and memories.
*In this workshop, we will scan the objects using an iPhone and a dedicated application (Scaniverse). We have arranged iPhones on loan, but if you wish to use your own iPhone, you must install the application (Scaniverse) in advance (iPhone 11 or higher version is recommended).

Welcome to Planet B - Kids' Workshop

The participants will create animated stories together based on the three themes of “Food,” “Housing” and “Mobility.” Building on the ideas from the stories they have experienced, participants will sketch their own future Earth (Planet B) and share their ideas with each other. This workshop will allow participants to experience the differences in their thinking processes and the richness of their ideas, while demonstrating their imagination/creativity to envision a sustainable future.

Talk

What kind of changes will occur in cities if art and digital technology are used to demonstrate people’s creativity in society? Three people from different fields and positions working at sites where art/technology/creativity converge will talk and brainstorm together about XR (cross reality), the future of cities , and the creativity of their citizens.

ABOUT US

Based on the Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT] mission “Co-Creative Transformation of Tokyo,” “CCBTx” is a program for implementing projects in collaboration with diverse partners across fields both in Japan and overseas with the aim of embodying the concepts of “Inspire,” “Co-Create,” “Incubate,” and “Network,” and proposing a creative social model.

Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT] opened its doors in October 2022 in Shibuya, Tokyo as a hub for the public to explore their “civic-creative” imaginations through art and digital technology. As a lab to realize and popularize this “civic creativity,” CCBT hosts projects and events in tandem with its experts and collaborators in the fields of art, design, and technology.
