Bridge2040
Bridge 2040 is a card game designed by Ars Electronica Futurelab artists which encourages players to come up with narratives set in the future. Players think in concrete terms about the future, on the basis of elements such as the people, technology and societal conditions of 2040, and discuss together. In the workshop, three or four strangers were put in groups and enthusiastically set about creating stories, occasionally savoring some scenarios more unique than was thought imaginable. The game emphasizes that the future is not something that is imposed on us but something that can be whatever we want it to be. Bridge 2040 also likely gave participants the experience of methods to build their own, independent future.

In the beginning of 2023, the Futurelab members Peter Haider, Denise Hirtenfelder, Nicolas Naveau and Maria Pfeifer joined forces to realize their idea for Bridge 2040 as part of the Futurelab Ideas Expedition. The Ideas Expedition takes place as an annual company internal competition and honors two winning projects by employees. The four diverse creators share their vision that in future there must be more inclusion for intergenerational groups in debates on future topics.
