Fashion designer Yuima Nakazato introduced his “Biosmocking” dress, made using the artificial protein-based textile Brewed Protein™ developed by Spiber Inc., which he showcased in his haute couture collection. It was obvious from the prototypes on display alongside the dress that there is plenty of trial and error involved in the process of making a dress from a new material. As well as discussing their respective undertakings and their collaboration, Nakazato and Spiber’s Kazuhide Sekiyama also talked about the issues underlining the development of Biosmocking technology, such as waste in the fashion industry, and discussed pointers for the future of a sustainable society beyond fashion.
