From Creativity to creativities: Lessons from the Pluriverse

Betty Malenko is an Associate Professor at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, and a Specially Appointed Professor on the WRH (World Research Hub) Program at Tokyo Institute of Technology. As a transdisciplinary theorist her research involves developing methodologies for innovation based on Western design philosophy. In this session, Malenko talked about the need for a new definition of creativity amid concern for a future difficult to predict due to dizzying social change and technological development. As well as expounding on how the definition of creativity has changed over history, she explored the necessity and nature of a shift from individual creativity to more holistic social creativity.

Dr. Marenko is a transdisciplinary theorist. She directs the Hybrid Futures Lab, a transversal research initiative at the intersection of philosophy, design, technology and future-building. She is Reader in Design and Techno-Digital Futures at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London and WRH Specially Appointed Professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology where she collaborates with STADHI (Science & Technology + Art & Design Hybrid Innovation), a transdisciplinary satellite Lab developing hybrid methodologies, and research-driven innovation practices.
